The Students’ Union Government extends its solidarity greetings to all malabites and malabresses as they return on campus. Malabor is set to receive you all.
The attention, of the SUG has been drawn to the release by the management of the University of Calabar directing a review in the charges paid by the Students’ of the University, our members.
It is our believe that this decision of management comes at a time where their intention of qualitative education for all will be betrayed.
The Union, being shocked by the decision of management has began preliminary consultations to find a way out of this quagmire.
However, while the process of consultation will continue it is the resolve of the Union to direct as follows:-
• *No student, be it New, returning or final year student should pay any School charges, be it department, faculty, or association*.
• *While the union is a process of consultations, all information concerning this issue will be officially released by the SUG President and secretary general.*
•*While we encourage every form of the students trying to relay their positions as regards the increments of school charges, the union will not tolerate any actions whatsoever that is not centrally coordinated by the Students’ Union government.*
•*All phantom gatherings, actions, memos or demonstrations that will be directed or called upon by any individual or group of individuals outside of the SUG will be seen as a deliberate effort by these persons to frustrate the efforts of the union in finding a resolution (in this case, a reversal to status quo) by the SUG and will be resisted with firm approaches.*
• *We also direct all other organs and structures of the Union to resolve to a collective action organized under the Students’ Union Government.*
The Students’ Union Government wants to assure you that we are actively addressing this issue. We understand the financial pressures we face and we are committed to finding a solution that benefits everyone.
We value our education and well-being, and we want to maintain an inclusive and supportive campus environment. Be Rest assured, we are engaging with all stakeholders, to address these concerns and find a resolution.
We encourage open dialogue and invite you to share your thoughts, ideas, and suggestions. Every single voice matter, and we will work together to ensure that every student has access to quality education.
The union has made attempts to reach the Vice Chancellor as the time of the release of this memo, we are however informed that she is not in town.
While we await her return to town, we will continue consultations and deliberations with other members of management and the various structures of the SUG. We are committed to transparency and we will provide regular updates on progress made towards resolving this issue. Together, we will waver this storm and establish a system where every single Malabite and Malabress will thrive.
Together we stand, divided we fall, remember; an injury to one is an injury to all.
