Yesterday, 13th April, 2024, I led a team from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to the areas affected by the devastating windstorm and communal clashes in Obubra/Etung Federal Constituency to assess the level of destruction and provide immediate assistance to those affected. Some of the communities visited include: Ofumbongha 1, Ofumbongha 4, Obubra Village, Mile One, Daily Market, Ogada 2, Ovonum, Ofatura and Imabana Ochokwu.
During the tour, the team worked tirelessly to gather accurate data and assess the extent of the damage caused by the storm and wars, and the impact it has had on countless homes, businesses, and livelihoods. They also observed the pain and desperation in the eyes of our people, reinforcing the urgency and importance of providing timely support.
Represented by Ebenezer Obasse, one of my aides, I used the opportunity to
reiterate my commitment to ensuring the well-being and safety of our constituents, emphasizing the Federal government's commitment to providing assistance in times of crisis and promising to prevail on the relevant agencies to design a targeted and effective response plan that caters to the unique challenges faced by each individual or community.
I must commend the resilience and strength shown by the people of the affected communities in the face of such adversity. Even in this difficult time, their spirit remains unwavering. It is now my duty and responsibility to ensure that they receive the support they need to recover and rebuild their lives.
I want to reassure you all that we are leaving no stone unturned in our efforts. We will work closely with relevant government agencies, community leaders, and stakeholders to provide immediate relief materials, including food, clean water, and temporary shelter to those affected. We will also mobilize resources for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of damaged infrastructure.
Meanwhile, I urge you all to join hands with us in extending support and solidarity to the affected individuals and communities. Your generous donations, both in material and financial terms, will go a long way in aiding the recovery process. Together, we can make a difference and bring hope to those who have lost so much.
In conclusion, I want to express my gratitude to NEMA, other government agencies, NGOs and individuals who have contributed in one way or the other, however little, to providing relief for our people. It goes a long way to buttressing the fact that, the business of catering to the needs of the people is a shared responsibility between the government and the private sector.
Let us, therefore, continue to stand united and extend our support to those in need. Together, we can overcome this tragedy and rebuild a stronger and more resilient Obubra/Etung
