Nsiyan Ogar Okey, popularly known as "Dubest," was born on June 14, 1986, into the family of the late Mr. Festus Ogar Okey of Iyamoyong village, located in Obubra Local Government Area. Dubest's educational journey began at St. Patrick’s Primary School in Iyamoyong, Obubra LGA, where he obtained his First School Leaving Certificate (FSLC). He continued his education at Okum East Secondary School in Ochon, Obubra LGA, earning his Senior School Certificate (SSCE). Furthering his education, he acquired a National Certificate of Education (NCE) from the then National Teachers Institute in Obubra and later obtained a Bachelor of Science in Education from the prestigious Cross River University of Technology, now the University of Cross River State (UNICROS).
*Professional and Community Engagement:*
Following his secondary education, Dubest began working as a motorbike rider (Okada rider) in Obubra due to a lack of sustainable job opportunities. His role as a rider soon expanded as he became the secretary of the association, where he was known for his effective management and crisis-free leadership. His journey in the professional world continued with SERMATECH CONSTRUCTION COMPANY, where he started as a laborer and foreman on the Iyamoyong-Iyamitet road project. Due to his diligence and humble nature, he quickly rose through the ranks, serving in roles such as checker, timekeeper, logistics officer, site manager, and eventually accountant for the NDDC project in Ohafia, Abia State.
Dubest's leadership extended to his tenure as the motor park chairman in Iyamoyong market. His tenure was marked by significant improvements, including the construction of a store, the renovation of shops, and the development of drainage and culverts to control erosion. His efforts earned him the role of Central Chairman of the entire Obubra parks, where he harmonized various interests, fostered peace, and led community-building initiatives.
*Political and Philanthropic Involvement:*
In the political arena, Dubest has been an active participant, serving as a member of the National Youth Mobilization (South-South) in the Tinubu/Shetima Presidential Campaign Council, a member of the state campaign council, and the secretary of the finance committee in the last APC governorship campaign in Obubra LGA. He also played a significant role as the coordinator of the Prince Otu advocate in the central senatorial district and a member of support groups that contributed to the success of the governor's victory. Additionally, he holds a position in security surveillance for the central senatorial district.
Nsiyan Okey is widely recognized for his philanthropic efforts. He has paid school fees for students and pupils, covered hospital bills, and promoted a peaceful lifestyle. His dedication to community service includes training people in skills acquisition, supporting students in tertiary institutions and school pupils, providing farm inputs for rural farmers, opening shops for artisans upon completion of training, providing startup capital for entrepreneurs, and improving local infrastructure, such as grading street roads in Iyamoyong.
Nsiyan Ogar was instrumental in coordinating the peace process between Nko and Onyadma, Ochon and Alesi, and Edondon and Ohumutet, where he was badly injured in an attempt to rescue some of the detained captives in the communal war-a task he successfully carried out.
